Evinrude outboard motor starts fine after launch but then won't start back up after riding in the water.

Hello, all.

I have a fishing boat with a 1989 Evinrude outboard motor. The boat has no trouble starting after launch. However, It just won't start back up after it's been riding in the water for a certain period of time. I could keep the motor running the entire time, but that defeats the purpose of fishing.

I'm certain it's not a starter issue. Last year, I had a boat mechanic replace the starter with an OEM starter, and the boat has no trouble starting after the launch.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?

when you say you doubt its the starter Im assuming it wont crank? If Im assuming wrong than it wont fire.
