Evinrude tachometer

I have a 1991 Evinrude 120 hp that I want to hook a tachometer up to(in dash) , can anyone tell me what I need?

Go to a website like Teleflex or faria, or,,,,you can find a tach compatable with your engine and pick the one you like. Then install using the directions that come with it. Not trying to be flippant, it is pretty easy even for a novice. The manufacturers have all the info on their web sites.

Thanks for replying. I have only ever had Chrysler and Force motors which needed very specific tachs. I have seen a bunch that have system check features for Evinrude. Not knowing much about Evinrude is why I asked the question. Yes hooking the tach up is pretty easy and not really what I asked. I'm looking for specifics like , what type tach( how many poles), can I use one with system check, what wiring harness I need?

Correct me if I am wrong but system check is for 96 and newer . The harness is specific for the SC tach. I imagine you can get a SC tach to work by splicing wires or ect. Unless you have one already why bother?

I believe you can adapt system check to the mtr but get ready to spend some money on wiring harnesses. Your better off just installing the plain old tach. JMHO.

Thanks everyone! I didn't know anything about the system check, just kept seeing tachs for evinrude with it. I'll definitely get a plain old tach, as the original warning system(horn) is still working. This motor is new to me and a big step up from the long line of Chrysler/ Force motors I've had. I did purchase a real evinrude shop manual for it! So thanks for the input!!
