Evinrude throttle cable

Hey -

I just worked on my lower unit (1998/115hp). I reconnected the shift rod but am not getting full power when I advance the throttle. I see a black wheel on the cable that looks like it can be turned to adjust the cable. But I'm not sure which way it should be turned and what effect that will have. Can anyone tell me the best way to get that re-adjusted.

thanks.

disconnect at engine put motor in neutral idle position. now adjust the black wheel to where you can reconnect without moving engine connection. if this doesn't work you probably have a stretched cable.

Many thanks - I'll give that a shot and let you know what's up.

Re: Evinrude throttle cable

Don't push or pull on that cable when making the adjustment and make sure the throttle linkage is against its idle stop (fully closed). The cable must match up exactly with the attachment point on the linkage. If you have to move things to make the connection -- you are doing something wrong or as Tash says, its stretched. No amount of adjusting will fix that. If you adjust a stretched cable to get full throttle, it will not fully return to idle.
