Re: evinrude tilt assist cylinder
I recently had the same problem. I figured I would replace all the parts that attach to the piston. It was pricey, about $850 with labor costs. I wound up having a CMC PT130 power trim and tilt system installed, $900. For $50 I no longer have to lift this motor anymore. The dealer used stainless steel hose clamps to secure the motor in a down and locked position.
You must be very careful that your piston does not fail completely. Because if it does, your motor will jump upwards when you gun the engine in reverse. Also, if you strike something under water a failed piston will not keep the motor in the water, it could swing up and hurting somebody or killing them. As far as I know through countless hours of searching the net. No one fixed one of thespositionsns. According to the OMC dealer, there was five years these pistons were used 1989 to 1993. Minisia a 92. Cheapest piston I found, $470. Good luck!
