Issue: I have 3 different sets of Evinrude controls none of which have the right plug type at the end but I need to get one of them to work. Engine side has the rectangular and control side has the red round. The controls I want to use have the push key to choke.

Engine side harness =
Red
Red w/Wh (Looks like it's coming from electric choke...?)
Green (from top side of starter solenoid)
White (from middle solenoid)
Black
Grey
Tan

Remote Harness =

Red w/Purple
Purple
Purple w/white
Black
Black w/yellow
Tan
Grey
Yellow w/Red

Grey I believe is Tach on both, purple/wh I guess would go to the red/wh, tan to tan I suppose for the warning alarm in remote, black to black, yellow w/red to white on solenoid, Green I guess to Red w/purple, which leaves the black w/yellow unused. Does this all sound correct?

Re: Evinrude wiring and remote

1968:
Red is ignition on
Green is battery (from solenoid)
White is start
Tan is temp sensor
Grey is tachometer
Black is ground
Red & white is choke

"Red Plug":
Purple is ignition on
Red w/purple is Battery (from solenoid)
Red w/yellow is start
Tan is temp sensor
Grey is tachometr
Black is ground
Purple w/white is choke
Black w/yellow is kill (used only with mag CD ignition) 1968 doesn't have mag CD.

EDIT: It may not work. The purple wire on the "red plug" control actually comes from the "Acc" terminal on the ignition switch. The Acc terminal might not be "hot" when cranking the starter. If it isn't, the motor will crank but not start. There is no "Ign" terminal on that switch, only the Acc one. So, it "depends". It's all in how the switch is constructed inside. The wiring diagram I have says it is ok. But don't try to go to the bank on it.

Re: Evinrude wiring and remote

Thanks for taking the time to answer. In the process of elimination with harnesses disconnected, I hooked up the battery and connected a bump starter to the Batt post on the solenoid and to the white wire coming off 2nd post of the solenoid on the other. At first when I would engage the bump starter I would get a click, so I checked to Battery and I get 12.8 V. With bump starter engaged I hooked mulitmeter to starter terminal on solenoid and I get 0.0V. Bad solenoid? I tried bypassing the solenoid with the bump starter and the starter itself will engage but it's very weak. All of the wiring harness on the engine is cooroded and I'd like to just rewire it but I want to make sure I'm not doing it for nothing and would like to just get it to crank over first. Will this diagram work for my motor? http://maxrules.com/graphics/omc/wiring/69_70_V4.jpg
