evinrude wiring

Can someone tell me which wire [colors]i would check on the motor that sends the signal to the tachometer?And the wire or wires in the main wiring harness that sends signal to tach?
Please someone help me with my issue it's driving me nuts

Grey is the signal wire throughout the harness from the engine to the tach. It does not connect to the ignition switch.

BTW, Don't allow voltage to ride the grey wire back to the recifier or you will need a new rectifier.

The grey wire should be connected to the rectifier grey wire with a bullet connector.

Ok,if the rectifier is bad would the motor still run,or would it just cause the tach not to work?
If i put a test light on the [grey] sending wire,when the motor fires it should light the tester up ,right?Or is it to low or current to set light off?
Where is the rectifier located? 1995 88 SPL
Also if it helps the tach is a [teleflex Omega series]

the old ones would run normal without a reg/rec (but it wont recharge your batt..youll have to make sure its fully charged before you go boating)but dont know about the newer models.

your grey wire should read 9-11 v dc shile motor is running.........and no it doesnt work like a car tach.....it works off of the charging sys rather than spark

wow i just looked up your eng: if you have a 25" shaft motor you have the new type under the flywheel===#69------------if you have a 20" shaft motor it is on the side of the motor===#65 which is a round rec like i spoke of earlier ...........#s are if you are looking at the shopevinrude diagrams

by the way a bad reg/rec will wipe out those tach if you arent carefull...........and any knid of mistake in hooking up the batt (hence rev polarity) will wipe out your reg/rec instantly

ok,found the rectifier and it is under the flywheel.it has 2 yellow,1 white,and 1 purple wire going to the electric strip,and 1 red going to silonoid.any idea is to which wire i can test for tach on this rectifier.
