Has anyone done this safely? What are the risks.

I ask because while looking for a 25-35hp outboard for the Lund I just picked up I an coming across many 40hp engines in my area and few 25-35's.

The Lund has a 35hp rating.

Thanks

Re: Exceeding Hp Rating

Thanks again t,

I had found another post here after I posted and it just reinforced the one you provided.

40hp Johnson and Evinrudes are like dandilions around here. Makes the temptation even greater!

Though my wife and I just yesterday had this Lund in the water for the 1st time, powered by only a 9.5hp Johnson ( ok, our lake is still under No Wake because of high water ) and to be honest I think I would be frightened to put even a 35hp on it. That boat dry, Lund says only weighs 385#. Thing would fly with a 35hp on it.

Think I'll be smart and keep looking. Maybe a 30hp.

Or even a good 20 or 25 Hp would do you fine. Johnnyrude made really nice 20 and 25hp models which you could probably get for around 500-600 bucks.

Good Luck,Dan

The Lund is a console steer with the steering that goes through the clamp brackets.

Earlier this spring there were all sorts of 25-35hp outboards for sale in this area when I was looking for a 18-20hp. Now they've seen to have all dried up ATM sense I bought this Lund.

I have time with the No Wake situation we have here and doesn't look like it will recede any time soon. But there are a lot of running 40s selling for $300-500.00 right now.

I would check with an insurace agent before overpowering, many will insure but the premiums might be higher, I wouldn't worry much about 5hp if there isnt a ton of extra weight. You can always use less throttle, if you have a good load the extra power would be a welcome addition.
