Re: Exceeding Towing Capacity

Thats very kind of you to make that offer. I think i need to join a yacht club and meet more people in my area.. I actually found a GMC 1 ton for rent at a Uhaul. It turns out there is a Uhaul in my area that rents trucks with hitches. I had to call around all weekend but I did find 1 place that seems to rent trucks and only 19.95 a day plus mileage. I only need it for < 10 miles total :)

So $40 and it's not your transmission gettin' cooked, sounds like a winner to me.

Ok so I went to the Uhaul and Budget and they told me no they dont rent the trucks with hitches, which was contrary to over the phone.

But anyways Dells Truck rental has a 1 ton its about 100 dollars for the day. Still a ok deal I guess.

But here is a new problem LOL:

So the deal on the triple axle didnt work out, but I got a excellent deal on another trailer. I got a 2002 Magic "Tragic" Tilt Model: TALS 2882 it has surge brakes on one axle, used once from Texas to the state of washington I paid $1600. I could not pass it up even if it was for the alluminum alone :).

Anyone have any experience with these Tragic tilts?

Here are some low quality pics..

jkru, Its a shame I you are not close by. I would go get it for you. Don't you have any friends with a 3/4-1 ton truck that can help a fellow boater out for a couple of hours?

Hang out at your local marina or ramp for bit. If it is anything like mine, you will encounter lots of boaters who are more than willing to assist another boater in need.

With what the OP stated, I would do this. However, for trips down the highway or across the state like in southern NM, I would invest in a bigger rig.

Re: Exceeding Towing Capacity

I tow boats and other types of trailers a great deal, I've also driven tanker trucks, large cranes, dumptrucks and other similar rigs over the years and
I must say that my Trailblazer is a poor tow vehicle and is not safe at anywhere near it's tow rating. My Trailblazer (this is my third one as a company car) has a tough time towing my 19" CC with a 200HP outboard on it safely, so with something almost triple the weight of my boat I would be afraid to drive it on the road. I don't normally shy away from towing anything and I've driven many overloaded trucks and trailers, sometimes it's no problem and other times it's a white knuckle ride, but I must say that this is the only rig that handles a little over half it's rated load so poorly.
