Excess gas in one cylinder 60 HP

I'm fixing the seal that's leaking on the L/H side of the two block halves. When I took the powerhead off, I noticed the aft exhaust port was soaked in fuel, while the fwd one has lots of carbon and seems to be burning nicely. Any idea what would cause the excess fuel? Both spark plugs look dry.
This is a late '70 block mated to a 1982 assembly. It was a brand new (20 year old storage from OMC) block I put on over the winter, and there is about 80-100 hrs on it. I noticed the gas squeezing out through the block halves at WOT while checking timing last week.

You might check the float level on that cylinder, maybe it is set a little high.
Does the fuel pump mount to that cylinder, maybe you have a defective diaphram allowing fuel directly into the cylinder.

I haven't checked the float level...I need the tool for it, but I did check the fuel pump, and it's on the upper cylinder, not the lower wet one
