Hi guys have an 87 force 125 hp and being new to this ,I'm not really sure of how much exhaust smoke should be coming out of this motor. It looks a lot to me but I could be wrong .Do these motors tend to be that way ? I can also smell gas pretty good which makes me think it's too rich. Can anyone give any suggestions?

Might I ask how you did that? So far I installed new spark plugs, cleaned the carbs ,cleaned the screen on the pump, installed a fuel filter between the pump and the carbs..It does run better but still the smoke.

Re: excessive exhaust smoke?

Excuse the lack of correct terminology. The smaller fuel lines that go in and out of the block move unused fuel back to where it can be used. They are connected to elbows at the block. Remove the lines and elbows. One goes up under the plate that holds the coils, which will have to be moved. Squirt carb. cleaner through the parts and into the block at the attachment points until the cleaner comes back clean. Mine were full of black gunk. Reassemble and fire it up. Good luck

hi I'm using 50:1 could maybe one brand of oil be better than another? I'm wandering if I'm running too rich.I'm gonna try cleaning out those other hoses also.

Replace the fuel pump diaphram. If they are torn or passing fuel, your engine will smoke alot. You will also see drops of oil in the water looking down as the engine is running.

Re: excessive exhaust smoke?

thanks for the advice Living in Canada so I 'll have to find a place which sells them .I also just changed the boots. I pulled them off the sparkplugs and rust dust was in the air. When those are replaced do you have to use the spring terminals or can you use the snap ons I had some spare accel terminals I was thinking of using
