What do you use to tighten the studs into the cylinder head? I used vise grips. There is a center piece on the stud with no threads so I tightened it there. I'm glad that job is complete!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (manifold/riser replacement) I will try to post a photo of the old parts if I figure out how.

I just make sure the threads are clean and screw them in by hand until it stops. I've never cranked on the studs. Thats what the nut is for.

you really want to avoid the vise grip route.just use 2 nuts jammed together on one end. also a good idea to clean the hole with a tap first.

I use double nuts jamed together. I torque the studs a little higher than the manifold nuts that will attach to them. Then the studs do not loosen when the manifold nuts are removed in the future.

How about a suggestion on removing the studs? Other way than vice grips?

Best not to post to an old thread with a new question. Besides you already have a post on this subject. Read the archives, don't reply to them or use them to ask a different question.
