Exhaust relief cover

Will I see any gains by removing the exhaust relief cover from a 25 hp Johnson? Had most of the motor apart recently (repair work) and after the rebuild I looked at how many baffles are inside this cover. I'm looking to boost RPM's/get better throttle response so I can actually run another prop.

Gains in what, noise? If anything, you might lose some horsepower by upsetting the exhaust tuning. Besides, at high speed the exhaust is scavenged out below water in the prop stream.
