I am replacing the starter on a Mercruiser 7.4 L V8 Bravo. The new starter has an ARCO solenoid #SW463 that has one more terminal than the original solenoid. (Photo below and at http://www.capecorp.com/solenoidcomparison.jpg). I?m not sure what to do with the ?extra? terminal. From the picture you can see that the old solenoid had a place for a terminal but it was sealed off.
I have four wires to go to the solenoid and based on a wiring diagram (below and at http://www.capecorp.com/wiringdiagram.jpg) my guess as to where they go is.
Red cable (12V Battery) ? To large terminal
Small gauge yellow/red ?To one of the small terminals?
Small gauge red ? To large terminal?
Small gauge orange ? To same terminal as the battery?
This is complicated a bit by the fact that the red cable, the orange wire and the small gauge red were broken off the original solenoid so I don?t know exactly where they went. My guess is that they were all attached to the large terminal along with the cable from the battery.
My questions are what should I do with the ?extra? solenoid terminal and are my wire assignments correct?
