F60 lacking power and revs

Hi All

I'm hoping you may be able to help?

We have two 'Alaska 500's' - 5meter open GRP fishing boats.

One of them has a F50 and the other I have just fitted a second hand F60 to.

The F50 originally had a 10 3/4 x 13 propeller which was fine for everyday use, but for diving lacked grunt, so I fitted a 10 3/4 x 11 - this worked perfectly.

The F60 I purchased had a 10 3/4 x 12 propeller. However I was suprised that for diving it would not get up on the plane. I therefore swapped propellers and still it would not get up on the plane (ironically the F50 with the 12 on still gets up on the plane when laden with divers and gear).

Therefore I have been digging further. With only 1 or 2 people onboard it is only pulling 5300rpm with the 11" propeller. My expectations would have been that with the F60 it would have been bouncing off the rev limiter?!?

I've checked the fuel filter and all appears to be clean. There is a small amount of debris in the paper filter so I guess that should be changed? It's not much though and it generally looks pretty clean.

I've read on here about the VST filter - is this worth a shot?

I don't have an external pre-filter installed, but from what I've read it sounds like this would be a good future investment.

Anyhow, apart from changing the paper filter has anyone got any further suggestions?

The engine has done approx 250 hours total.

Thank you in advance for any thoughts / suggestions.

Craig

Dirty injctors, ignition timing, valve timing, valve lash adjustment, are a few considerations.

Re: F60 lacking power and revs

There's some involved things to check there thank you.

I forgot to say that the F50 is an old carbed one, where as the F60 being only a few years old is fuel injected....if that makes any odds.

I went to buy a new paper filter today, but the local mechanics talked me out of it saying that it would have to be really clogged before it made any difference. Although I'm still not convinced.....
