Re: FAA changes - WTF?

I think on 9/11, the mindset of the country was hijackers had a purpose other than crashing planes into buildings. Until that day, hijackings usually ended with the plane safely on the ground and the bad guys either caught, dead, or escaped. In any case, a descent outcome for the majority of the passengers. I firmly believe that if the poor folks on those planes had known what those (insert expletive of choice) terrorists were up to, they all would have fought back. I'm not sure where I was going with this. I guess what I mean is that the box cutters were for show. A symbol of power and control, but nothing more. Had the passengers known, a couple of razor blades wouldn't have stopped them from fighting back. Obvious observation I guess as evidenced by the plane that crashed in PA.

So... does it really matter if you carry a nail file on a plane? I don't think so.

DR

Good point DR. There should only be a little blood in an aisle before somebody gets their butt royally kicked. No sarcasm whatsoever, I agree.

dr- decent point, and proved if you believe the story on the plane that went down without hitting it's mark. chances are, the same scenario won't happen again. passengers fight back. and regardless, you can't get to the pilots. they don't open the door for anyone. so you could take your argument.

but what about the good old fashioned highjacking. why make it just a little easier for them? the argument on a few bottles of wine doesn't hold up. a weapon or two, maybe? we're talking about 6 or 8 men all carrying a sharp object. again, why even give them the chance?

it just seems so common sense to me. i don't need to fly with anything i can't just check as baggage.

about the most absolute idiotic thing I have seen at airport security so far, is a lady with 3
kids, one about 4 and a set about 2, she had the little 2" baby fingernail cutting scissors, designed specifically NOT to cut flesh and with no points, dang if security did not take them from the diaper bag.
then there was the half naked gal with some pics that had all the TSA guards hanging on her everyword.
that was funny to see, however she was a looker:).
just had all 5 of the guards looking at her chest and the pics she was holding and not at the landscape. but they were all armed so I felt better.
what kills me is exraying my sandals:)
last october I had a V6 merc staotor in my carryon, got searched at every checkpoint from norfolk to new york then from new your to ATL then from ATL to Venezuela. I was worried leaving new yourk that they would not allow it :) :) .
was rather funny though:).

I have to agree with an earlier post. Times have changed since 911. I don't care how many moronic hijackers you put on a flight these days, they are not going to take over a plane full of passengers with a couple of small scissors or nail clippers. Let innocent citizens go, let the security staff be on the lookout for real weapons. Younger people may not understand this, but planes used to be hijacked from time to time...it happened, back in those days, the hijackers had real weapons, and they would not think about crashing the plane they were on....they wanted to get somewhere. Prior to 911, if I was on a plane and I was told that it had been hijacked, I would not have done anything, I would have relaxed and waited for the hijackers demands to be met....they usually wanted the plane refueled and flown to some Godforsaken country to free some idiot....the passengers that stayed calm were not hurt.
Since 911 times have changed, myself and many other passengers are of the mindset of "mess with our plane...we will kill you". Seriously, people will no longer sit back and let someone take a plane, from the captain who will not open the hardened flightdeck door, to the passengers and possibly armed air marshall who will fight any hijackers to death, the events of 911 could not happen again. What is that old saying....fool me once...shame on you....fool me twice.....
