Hello Boaters,

Dumb question, I noticed that there are wire ties (ty-wraps) securing the fuel hose to various fittings on my engine. They seem to be loose and some are leaking. Were these origionally installed that way or did someone add these after the fact.

Can I replace them with good old fashioned hose clamps?

Thanks

The tie wraps are factory installed, but they are not normal tie wraps... If you have a look at them you'll see they are specially designed to go around small hoses... The Merc part number for them is 54-816311T, but they come in packets of 50... When I do fuel pumps, filters and carbs I use them, as per Mercury. Never had one leak. I have also replaced HEAPS of ordinary ties that people (including boat workshops ) have put on without realising the difference... and they do leak.

Have a look at this picture. Those 'edges' help conform around the hose and stop leaks occurring...

Thanks Mate!

I was in Perth when I was in the Navy in 1984. Met a girl there while on liberty and considered "jumping ship" to be with her. I decided I would probably regret it down the road so I didnt do it. Beautiful girls and great beer! Australia has the friendliest people on earth and hope to get back there someday.

Thanks for the info!!
