I am looking to sell my 1958 18 hp Johnson Seahorse. I live in Mountain Home, Arkansas.

I have replaced the spark plugs, rebuilt the carborator, and done everything I know how and still can't get it running. I want to get on the water, so I am going to try and sell this one for an antique or whatever and buy something else.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what a fair asking price would be for this motor.

Re: Fair Price

Non-running FD-12s don't sell for very much, I'm afraid. You don't say where you are located, and that makes a difference.

Why not see if we can't help you get this one running. They're very nice outboards and quite reliable. Check out the FAQ for "Outboard won't start" at the link below:

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=158071

Follow the steps in there and let us know what you find. If you can get this one running, it'll last you for years.

Re: Fair Price

I have been through the FAQ, and I am done with it, unless someone can physically show me what is going on with it. I am not blessed with being mechanical inclined. I wish I knew more about it. I just want a working motor to get me on the lake.

u could take the money you would invest in another engine and take it to an outboard mechanic... might be something simple, and once fixed you would have a jam up vintage motor.
just a thought....

Those are good motors. You should fix it. If you still want to sell it, or would like some help fixing it, send me a PM (private message) by clicking on my name at the top of my thread.
As a collector I'd love to have it since I love the FD's and don't have that year but as said, they're not worth much not running.

Re: Fair Price

That motor is considered a classic not an antique. Lots of those motors still around so there isn't much value I'm afraid.

I just bought an Evinrude of that year and hp completely tuned-up and running. The fella I bought it from tried to sell it for $325, but finally offered it to me 6 months later for $100. Prior to that, it sat for months at $225 with no bites. I doubt you would see anymore than $100. They are hard to sell where I am for anything over $250 running.

You don't have to be too mechanically inclined to fix it. Just ask questions here and we can get you motoring in no time - unless its shot of course. A complete tune-up and gearcase reseal will cost in the neighbourhood of $200 in parts.

around here a non running motor is worth about 50 dollars. Running in good shape it will bring 2-300. depends on the time of year.
