Just received my seal kit for my E70TLEND tilt trim unit and I can't find any instruction as to which ones to use for the Trim cylinder cap. Wiper seal was leaking. Took the cap off. Two seals are present on the inside. One in the middle, looking like a regular o-ring inside a large groove. One on top. Tried to remove the top one but did not come easy and seems to be stuck inside a small groove. I can't see anything in the kit that would fit this configuration. I can send some pictures if needed but basically I'm now wondering if that seal was meant to come off at all, and if the new seal is just a newer model.

Thanks for the help...

The seal on top is just a wiper. The other seal may be special o-ring, not sure. BRP parts web site does not show these seals. Joe Reeves may have some of the seals. I will try and id the part numbers. I have a set for the 2 trim cylinders, I think, came from Joe.

Not much help, takes too much time to do the research. You could measure the rod, then measure the rod on 1989 150. If the rod is same size, there is seal kit for the rod and piston, dealer can get this, about 25.00. The wiper may be same as the tilt cylinders. The 0-ring is a standard 0-ring.

How does the wiper seal stay in place though? How does it not go up and down? I figured the grove is to hold the seal in place but there are no parts in the kit that looks like it would fit in there. FIY, the wiper seal looked like one whole piece going inside the grove and all the way up the surface of the cap.

Your cap looks a little different than mine off my 1993 40HP, but similar. I rebuilt mine last fall using an Evinrude seal kit. None of the parts were labeled, I compared them to the parts I removed to figure out what was what. There was one o-ring or two around a screw that was confusing but so far no leaks, and it works good.

The wiper on mine seemed to be held in with just the pressure around it. It was hard metal coated with a rubber type material and had to be pressed into the cap to fit. I use a small plastic hammer.

Here I'm removing the inner seal retainer. The inner seal, what your picture questions as an "o-ring" is the second part from the left in my parts pic below. The inner seal is a thick, square-edged flexible rubber seal. The seal is inserted by just bending it so it fits in the hole, sliding it down, and letting it re-expand in the groove. It was square shaped, so make sure it isn't kinked. I'm not sure if it had an bevel to the edges or not. The seal retainer is a split-ring design that you pull apart to fit in below the seal. When the retainer is in there, the seal will be snug enough to stay put.

The parts on top are new, bottom are what I removed. All came from the cap alone.
Left to right: cap o-ring, inner seal, inner seal retainer, upper seal (wiper)
