Hello

Just curious has anyone used anything but the mercruiser high performance gear lube in their outboards and sterndrives? Stuff like lucas or amsoil or is there maybe another big brand name good marine synthetic gear oil that someone would reccomend?

I think Bondo uses mobil1. I've used Sierra, but it's pretty much the same price as the Merc. There are allegedly emulsifiers in the marine stuff that helps if you get water in there, but who knows. I haven't seen many/if any reports on drive failures that weren't due to water intrusion/low oil/doing something stupid.

Many use amsoil Extreme and Merc full synthetic racing gear lube on OSO

I use Merc HP in my Rinker and Merc Racing Syn in my Formula

ok I will go with the amsoil marine synthetic. supposedly good stuff and the good thing is they have it in stock and it's 3 bucks/L cheaper than the merc stuff.
