Re: Fed up with suzuki!!

Now apparently they dont have a gas tank for it there, and I have to send it down so they can run the motor when it gets repaired. I didnt have to leave it last time which is why I didnt leave it this time. Just found it funny a dealer wouldnt have a gas can for it.

That is very strange. Usually shops prefer to use their own tanks to eliminate any possible issues with customer tanks. This caused a repeat trip to the shop for us last year.

I don't know what dealers may be close to you, but personally, I'm not going to by one particular brand of something like an outboard if I can't get warranty service close by but I can with another brand. You hope to never need warranty service but it's nice not to have to waste a lot of time to get that service when you need it. Plus, as luck would have it, if I bought a brand because it as the fewest warranty repairs and the nearest dealer was 200 miles away, while the other brands all have dealers within 10 miles, you can bet I would have a lot of warranty work needed and I probably wouldn't need any work with any of the other brands. This is one reason why I've never even looked at a Suzuki, there just isn't any dealer close enough to me.

Considering that it will need to go through the break in period all over again I think they are doing you a favor. You have read the break in section with all the restrictions that entails????

I sure did, read the manual, and followed it to a T with the initial break in. I just hope they do that for the first 4 hours of operation, which I doubt will happen. I doubt this because as well as not going above a certain speed based on hours of operation, your also NOT supposed to maintain a continuous speed for extended periods of time. I would bet it will be dumped in a tank, set up at a certain speed and left running for extended periods.

I agree, I didnt do enough homework on service for Suzuki. With a Honda outboard, you can take it to any honda powerhouse. I assumed Id be able to take my Suzuki to ANY suzuki dealer for service, and man was I wrong. NOT ONE DEALER IN NEW BRUNSWICK.
So hopefully other people can learn from my mistake. If I had known Id have to travel to another province for service I NEVER would have bought a damn Suzuki.

Re: Fed up with suzuki!!

After talking with the dealer, and them asking for my fuel tank, I sent this off to Suzuki Canada in an email:

"Just got a call today from the dealer about my motor. Seems they are going to change the power head but use the old pistons and crank. I dont understand why you just wouldnt give me a new outboard for all my troubles.
Then to top it all off, they now want me to send my fuel tank to them to run the motor when its put back together. I live 4.5 hrs from this nearest dealer so driving it there isnt an option, and shipping it is another expense I am incurring. I don’t even know if they’ll let me ship an empty fuel container, with all the fumes and all. Surely a dealer should have a fuel tank to use for such trouble shooting. It wasnt required the first time they rebuilt the motor.
Maybe you dont fully understand all thats happened to this motor.
2 motor teardowns, one throttle linkage breakdown and 2 motor tilt springs broke off. (which I might add are not covered by warranty, or so I was told, and havent been replaced.
Why not just replace the whole outboard for my troubles?"

Then Suzuki just sent this reply a few minutes a go:

"We understand the difficulties and regret the inconvenience that this issue is causing you, and we would like to reassure you that customer service is one of our key commitments and to this end, are continuously working with your dealer to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. We are also reviewing with your dealer as to why he requires your fuel tank.
Please note that the Suzuki warranty on outboard motors is for the repair of manufacturer’s defects and not replacement.
Yours truly,"

Maybe now I wont have to send my fuel tank. Another dealer tactic to get back at me? Maybe, then again maybe he just doesnt have a spare tank, who knows.

this kind of makes you want to do something so they will have to replace the motor with a new one .talk to a lawyer.

Yeah it would be nice. Unfortunately, Suzuki has continued to stand by the "warranty says we'll fix the motor, not replace."

BTW just got the motor back last week, apparently all tested and repaired. Since boating season is basically done, motor is in basement for winter storage. Guess I'll have to wait till next year again to see if everything works.

Did you end up sending your tank?

Did they run motor through break in this time, or are you going to have to run it through the break in hours yourself?

The answer to the first question was "NO". I emailed Suzuki, telling them I was being asked to send my fuel tank. They responded they would check with the dealer as to why they needed my tank. I never heard anything back from the dealer, so obviously they made out ok.

The answer the second question, When I picked the motor up, I asked if it had been run for the 8 hours they said they were going to run it, and she said everything that was supposed to have been done to the motor WAS completed. So in my mind break in has been completed.

They even changed the broken lock springs for the motor mount, which was a nice change.

"Everything that was supposed to have been done"- you gotta just Love that! Probably a good idea to run the motor sorta easy for the first day out to give it a little bit of break-in anyway...can't hurt a thing! Good Luck and I hope it works great for you!

I would make very sure (verify with management or mechanics) that the motor was run through the break in hours before running it and make sure that if it has not or even if it was what all Suzuki recommends for a lay up till next year on a new rebuild.

They can come back and say you did not do this or that if you have problems later

If you know a lawyer have him write a stinking letter to the dealership with the threat of legal action with a copy to Suzuki.
A letter usually doesn't cost much.

You might also like to know the Suzuki America just closed shop on the automobile line. Money problems at Suzuki perhaps.

No matter what brand, four strokes are poor at best. Don't expect the longevity of a two stroke. Ford parts in a Yamaha?!!!!
