Re: Feeling old and I'm not

I'm 48 and I mentioned to my wife not long ago that I feel better now then anytime in my life.
Whenever I'm having back troubles, I'll take a horseback ride.
If I feel lethargic, I'll take a 5 mile hike in the foothills.
If I have an attitude, I'll go fishing.

I make it a top priority to stay active. Working 4/10's really helps. The biggest thing that helps me though, is I refuse to sit in front of the TV past the news hour. I don't have much use for the Budwieser and Pepsi football leagues, so that frees up most of the weekends. An hour or two on the www and I'm off doing something else.

Shoot, I'll throw a "Rage Against The Machine" CD in for the Monday morning commute. And Kid Rock for the Thursday night trip back home.
I'm not old and I don't expect I will be for another 30 years or so.
Even though I heard some "Grand Funk Railroad" that I've not heard for awhile today. :p

Re: Feeling old and I'm not

GFR rocks.......

My 15 year old is surprised when the wife and I know the words to the oldies songs and sing the lyrics.
I dont heal as well as I used to, but I feel like a kid most of the time.

I looked back to when I was a teeneager recently and wondered what I would be like as a 40-50 year old. It's not even close to what I imagined as a teenager.

Re: Feeling old and I'm not

I only feel old when my body is trying to recover from playing with the younger generation. I can still go out and run up and down the court in a game of basketball, and I can still take full shifts on the ice in hockey, but I do pay for it a couple days afterwards. Other than that I am in PRIMETIME ;)

Like the ol saying goes, "You feel as old as you think you are" or something like that.
You know, the mind thing.
Now what was this topic about?

Oh yea, them "old" songs.
At least you can understand what they are saying instead of a bunch of spitting and coughing and then some more spitting, then grabbing and pulling your britches up and then some more spitting.
You get the picture.

Yes dear, I know it's Monday.

Aging is when you finally got your head together, and your body starts falling apart.

Here' a little poem I share with "seasoned citizens"

God, grant me the Senility
To forget the people
I never liked anyway,
The good fortune
To run into the ones I do,
And the eyesight
To tell the difference.

Love that poem, LF.
SInce I've started excercising I've felt younger, though I've never really felt old, just tired somedays. Mostly job related I'm sure.
When people say they feel old I think they're not getting out there and living enough. Try something new is what I say.
The "Bored" word. What's up with it even being in kids vocabulary? I didn't even know of the word was until I became an adult. I still don't understand what it feels like. Always something to do. Who's with me on this?
Bassy

Originally posted by RICKRICK1:
Heck my kids cant stay up with me. I'm 20 years older and all they can do is watch TV and play video games. They sure miss alot of the great outdoors.
I hear ya! Some of mine do the same! Geez, arguing about dumb hand held games(Gameboys), and 3 other types of tv based video games. Or just SIT and watch tv ALL day>???? I've tried to get them out but grrrrrrrrrr....not worth the frustration/arguments, they'll just SIT when they hear me mowing lawn, working in garage, etc. Of course these would be the stepkids and wife doesn't know what discilpine, etc. is. At least my 5 yr old loves outdoors!

Re: Feeling old and I'm not

What ever happened to dodge ball, hide-n-seek, building bird houses, tree forts, playing spotlight and all the other silly things we used to play outdoors.

When we got home from school, it was homework, chores, then outside. No choice in the matter we HAD to go outside no matter how hot or cold it was. With 5 of us Mom needed the break. In the winter we would build snow forts, tabaggon, shovel off the lake and go ice skating and have snowball wars with my brother and his friends.

TV was something old people watched. ;)

LF- I remember those games with very fond memories. Freeze tag was another one! Hop-scotch and jump rope. Playing on the bars for hours( always had scrapes on the elbows and knees and blisters/calluses on the hands). Never was a problem. Lotion? What was that?
What fun it was!
Bassy

LF love the poem.

Im old I know it and thats all my Granddaughters got to say about it. Old enough to play tag and hide n seek, hopscotch with them and the most fun, chalk painting the driveway. This is still my first childhood. :D
