Fuel prices will rise by 17c per litre tomorrow! That's about 50 cents per US gallon, overnight!!!

Has anyone got any ideas how we can stop this outrageous ripoff?

Oil has FALLEN by 40% but pump prices RISE by 11% !!!!

I know it's been done to death already, but I just need to vent!!!

Crude has fallen 38% in the since it's record high of $147.27 (set July 11, 2008)..............yesterday it closed at just over $91.00 dollars a barrel. It's simple supply and demand achris :rolleyes:. That or your fuel is being supplied by our Gulf Coast refineries that were affected by Ike............(again):rolleyes: BTW FWIW OPEC last week announced it was cutting production due to the drop in World Wide demand, and current high levels being held in reserves.

Stop using so much fuel. I know it ain't cool but you don't really need to get in your vehicle or boat and run around all the time.

And Saudi Arabia walked out on Opec because they are against cutting production.

all we can do at this time, is CUT BACK. you could buy a smart car, and keep running around, but who would buy your SUV?? or you loose your rump selling it, and still can't afford the gas for the smart car.

Re: Feeling victimized and there's nothing I can do about it!!

it's very simple in theory. We just have to be strong and not purchase the fuel. In actuality of course they have us by the cahoonas. We all need to drive to work. We enjoy our gas engine toys. (and diesel), we love our big trucks and SUV's.

I had a thought once, not sure if it would truly affect anything but, we always see the don't buy for a day emails. What if everyone who could would a week off of work. Spend the week at home. No fuel usage. You can sail, walk, bike or whatever but no fuel.

Another thing, why not prohibit our refinieries from selling our oil overseas? The oil belongs to the US citizans not to a private co. Yes I know they bought the rights but hear me out on this. Any oil pumped from US soil has to be sold to US market.

We could limit their profits. We use to have minimum profits for gas stations to keep everyone competitive, why not maximum profit levels in order to keep our nation competitive with the world.

Just random thoughts. I would definitely be up for the week off program. :D

Re: Feeling victimized and there's nothing I can do about it!!

When gas first spiked my wife and I started communting to work together. We were both driving from York to Harrisburg (30 miles) seperately due to different start times. She was fortunately able to get hers changed. We used to have 3 vehicles but we just last week traded our gas guzzling Pacifica and my old Buick in on an 07' Impala. We aren't thrilled at the mileage we're getting out of the Imapala but it's still better than the Pac and now we have 1 less vehicle to maintain. Sad to say though that car pooling has gone from being a nice way to put some money in our pocket to basically being a necessity with how gas prices have gone up. My wife and I have a 1 year old and we've enjoyed the extra alone time the drive has given us, and picking him up from daycare together everyday is nice as well.

Re: Feeling victimized and there's nothing I can do about it!!

There's alway's going to be an excuse as to why the gas prices are so high. IT"S POLITICS. One person say's it's due to supply and demand and then in the same breath they say that oil demand has dropped but, the price at the pump has not dropped. What i see needs to happen is people need to slow down. I see big suv's doing 15-30mph over the speed limit. You would be surprised the gas you save if you drove the speed limit for even a week. They really like to hit you when you have a storm hit. They can come on the news way before a hurricane even hit's and tell you that gas is going up when they don't even know the damage the storm is going to do. You can't tell me that the oil that is being produced when a storm hit's is the same oil that will be in my car with in the time that it hit's. It proably takes a month before you use what was produced. They have reserves, they just don't want to use it. Again it results back to politics. Here in Ky they have said that they are investigating into the prices at the filling stations because they have found that they are definitly ripping us off but they never do anything about it. You can drive out of the city into the sticks as we call it and pay 30-40cents less per gallon. The only changes i have made is that i don't fill the boat up when i take it out. It sees about $30.00 in the tank when we take it out. We definitly float around more when on the lake than we used to. Nothing wrong with that because i am happy just getting out on the water and relaxing.

Do you have any CNG fueling stations local to you? I may be able to help you out of this predicament. :D

Re: Feeling victimized and there's nothing I can do about it!!

I don't remember the exact figure, but I've read several places where demand for fuel has significantly dropped. I believe it. I also know we can / should conserve even more.

For years, most traffic on the interstate hiways around here averaged 5 - 15 mph over the posted speed limit. This summer, when we went to the lake cottage, I set my cruise about 2 mph under the limit -- and very few peple passed me.

Starting about a month ago, this 58-year-old, overweight guy started riding my bicycle to work when it's not raining. It's only 4 miles, but... I'm actually feeling better and healthier. And I'm saving a little bit in fuel costs. So now one of our cars sits in the garage. I know I'll use it once snow time comes, but for now, it's good.

By road my commute would be about 4 miles and by bike takes me 15-20 minutes (ok, I take it easy -- if I pushed once I got back in shape, it'd be maybe 8-10 minutes). I know there are some dedicated people that bike much farther for their commute, but what would you consider a reasonable distance?

This way I'm not complaining at or to anyone. I'm not saying others should / should not do something. I'm not begging the government to get involved. Just me and what I feel like. Anyone else willing to try to soft-peddle :p the issue?

What you need to realize is that oil futures prices are set by the big investors, like Lehman, AIG, etc. This causes the current fuel prices to go up for the little guy. Then, when futures drop, they cry because they're losing money, so the gubmint bails them out. Whose money does the gubmint do this with? The taxpayer's, the same little guys that have been getting raped with the high fuel prices, who, when they lose $1000 in the market, the big guys look at and say, "What an amateur." Meanwhile. the big investors get to keep the 27 gazillion bucks they made by manipulating the market for two years before the gubmint gives them back all they lost last week.

Subject: WHERE AND WHY TO BUY AMERICAN GASOLINE
Gas rationing in the 70's worked even though we grumbled about it. It might even have been good for us! Are you aware that the Saudis are boycotting American products?
Shouldn't we return the favor? Can't we take control of our own destiny and let these giant oil importers know who REALLY generates their profits, their livings? How about leaving American Dollars in America and reduce the import/export deficit?
An appealing remedy might be to boycott their GAS. Every time you fill up your car you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia. Just purchase gas from companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis.
Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill up my tank, I'm sending my money to people who I get the impression want me, my family and my friends dead. Don't you think it might be of interest to know which oil companies import Middle Eastern oil and which do not?

These companies import Middle Eastern oil:
Shell................................. 205,742,000 barrels
Chevron/Texaco................. 144,332,000 barrels
Exxon /Mobil....................... 130,082,000 barrels
Marathon/Speedway............ 117,740,000 barrels
Amoco................................. 62,231,000 barrels

And CITGO oil is imported from Venezuela by Dictator Hugo Chavez who hates America and openly avows our economic destruction! (We pay Chavez's regime nearly $10 Billion per year in oil revenues!)

The U.S. currently imports 5,517,000 barrels of crude oil per day from OPEC. If you do the math at $95 per barrel, that's over $524 million PER DAY ($191 BILLION per year!) handed over to OPEC, many of whose members are our confirmed enemies!!!!!

Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:
Sunoco........................ 0 barrels
Sonoco....................... 0 barrels
Sinclair....................... 0 barrels
BP / Phillips................... 0 barrels
Hess. .......................... 0 barrels
ARC0........................... 0 barrels
Maverick....................... 0 barrels
Flying J. ........................ 0 barrels
Valero........................... 0 barrels

Murphy Oil USA, sold at Wal-Mart, is from South Arkansas
They also give scholarships to all children in their town who finish high school and are legal US citizens.

All of this information is available from the U.S. Department of Energy and each company is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing.

Very, very dangerous. A slippery slope. I don't want that camel (pun intended) getting its nose under the flap of my tent.

What's next? Food, property, entertainment, boats?

True. It has been discussed before.
It's not Joe Monkeywrench at the gas station, their profit margin is slim.
There aren't too many gas station owners that will leave their Rolls on the side of the road when it runs out of gas and go get another one.
You can't regulate profits.
You can prosecute gouging.
