THe NOAA fisheries and the PFMC are in the process of possibly closing a big chunk of the west coast salmon fishery.

I'm begging all of you on the East coast and all through the rest of the country to please take a couple of minutes to follow the link provided and send some automatic emails to the powers that be about this situation.

This white paper is interesting reading, http://www.fishpolitics.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=96

This part makes me think that we may very well loose more than 2006 season if they (NOAA) get their way.

>>>>Conditions in 2005 appear to be better and conditions in 2006 may be better still. However, the spawning escapement of Klamath fall Chinook is made up primarily of age-3 and age-4 fish. This year’s forecast for age-3 abundance is the lowest on record (STT2006b). The age-2 fish in this year’s run will be from the 2004 brood year, before riverconditions began to improve. This does not bode well for the 2007 and 2008 return years. Any additional ocean fishing mortality will not only reduce this year’s spawning run, but will also reduce the spawning runs for the next couple of years.<<<<

One thing for sure as if this plays out the way I think it will every fisherman in California, Oregon and Washington had better remember this stuff all the way to the polls.

If you have not been sending those emails via the links supplied in previous postings here it is again.

http://capwiz.com/asafish/issues/alert/?alertid=8638771&type=ML please send a few as every one helps.

All fishermen are in this together reguardless of where you fish as your faviorite species just very well might be next. Just ask PETA.

Thanks guys.

Jan

try again

http://capwiz.com/asafish/issues/alert/?alertid=8638771&type=ML

Jan

I don't do auto emails.

As a long time west coast salmon fisherman, I prefer leaving fisheries mgmt to scientists and others that have spent their careers studying same. While they don't know everything, and may from time to time make mistakes, their errors are usually on the side on conservation, as opposed to exploitation of the resource.

In my opinion, the only reason there still is a resource to manage today is the Boldt decision in the 70's, and if public opinion and special interests had their way, he would have been lynched on the spot right then.

But don't you know, It is our place in the world to let the fishies go, so that the Japanese and Chinese commercial fishermen can harvest them.

A real problem. Water for farms or water for fish. It was a real shame so many salmon died because of lack of water.

This whole thing makes me so freaking p*ssed I cant even talk inteligently about it, Its all junk science, and they wont do a thing about sea lions setting in the fish ladders and gorging themselves on the "Endangered fish"!!!!!! There so called "Fish count", was done in the wrong part of the river and the wrong time of the year. and some of the ones counting fish didnt even know what a salmon looked like. No freaking Salmon, My A*ss!!!!! I just cant go on.
