Answer me this question, does it pump correctly with the old thermostat?
You said you only changed it because the original was from 1996!

It did until i went through a bunch of duckweed and everything stopped! Took the t-stat out and peed fine-Old one, is the one i took out. Now I just went outside and dropped my lower unit agian and examined everything. Well i noticed that they had a bunch of nasty looking water/grease(white looking) around the water pump housing and in the exhaust throat. Well i took off the water pump AKA impellor housing and then took impelloer off and noticed that the gasket under the metal plate was torn in one of the far corners. No telling what everything else looks like under that! IDK bc i just bought the boat and never took any of the gaskets off under the water pump housing....But would that have anything to do with my thermostat not functioning right? Because like i said I can take the t-stat out and it pees FLAWLESSLY!!!!!! This project is really killing brain cells, i think i have lost like 5yrs. off fmy life from stressing sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much over this!!!!!!!!!! However, yall are keepin me in it and i refuse to give up, mainly bc of yalls help!!!! THanks a bunch!!!

Re: Fellows, Im starting to get AGGRIVATED!!! HELP!!

Ooooo Forgot to mention i took the edvice as stated earlier and checked the connection of my "tube" that connects the water pump housing to the throat that goes to the t-stat. Well i cant see if i am getting a good connection becasue once you get the l/u up so far you can tell if you are making a good connection.........i just figured if it slide on correctly then everything lined up right? Now the first time i dropped the l/u that little tube stayed on the throat of the engine and didnt come off with the water pump housing . Well this time i took it off of the throat and assembled it on the pump housing before i installed the l/u...........just wanted to throw that out..

Re: Fellows, Im starting to get AGGRIVATED!!! HELP!!

Don't know on the gasket, if it's broken in the right place it may keep water from getting up the tube!
White grease, sounds like the seal around the drive shaft leaking!
That little tube is kinda hard to figure, just had to guess at it when I did my pump. Got lucky I guess!

The question: Will it be the duckweed or the little tube above the pump!

Get a compressor and with the thermostat and the lower unit still removed wrap a rag around the air nozzle so it will seal in housing and wear safety glasses, put something like a big towel tied around the engine leg so you can catch whatever it is!
Blow back thru the thermostat housing and get that duckweed or whatever it is out of the passage ways that's causing you to loose those years!

Re: Fellows, Im starting to get AGGRIVATED!!! HELP!!

Will do that man!! I will start on it today when i get off work. I had my mind last night that i was just going to bring it in to somebody, but thinking about it, i want to complete this task MYSELF! This is my first boat i have ever owned so i am new to all of this, but im learning!

Heres what i am going to try, and feel free to throw anything eles out there:

1.) Take lower unit off and blow with a compressor through the t-stat housing.
2.) Change out gaskets on water pump.
3.) Change shaft seal below water pump housing.
4.) Try to figure out why my carburator is leaking while running. It leaks barley, like a drop or two, from the opening of the carb. Dont know what that means but ima try and figure it out to?
5.) Repent of all my sins so this THING WORKS RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*THANKS EVERYBODY!!! IF anybody has any more suggestions please let me know! Yall teach me something everyday!!!

Re: Fellows, Im starting to get AGGRIVATED!!! HELP!!

That dripping gas is probably a sticking inlet needle that regulates the gas flow to the carburetor or it could be that the float is starting to get gas logged, or the float could be out of adjustment or hanging up or it could be trash blocking the inlet needle in the carb.
Now there's something to think about, but any of it is easily corrected in less than an hours work or in minutes for that matter!

Re: Fellows, Im starting to get AGGRIVATED!!! HELP!!

Thanks maxum. Today i purchased the upper and lower gasket seals for the water pump. Both were in bad condition. Especially the bottom one. It was torn and melted on the l/u. Replaced both and blew air through the thermostat housing and all was clear. SOOOO i started it up and guess what STILL no pee with thermostat. But thats ok bc i feel confident that it will start pee'n on the lake bc THERE IS NOTHING ELSE THAT CAN BE DONE! i have done everything possible that would cause it not to pee while t-stat is in. SO it has to pee on the lake! That is the only think i havent done yet is dropped it in the lake. AND if it still doesnt pee, i am throwin the t-sat in the water and running without one bc i know it will pee without one. Also it want hurt anything bc our water temp. around here is in the middle to upper 80's........ I have been using muffs and a barrel, but ima do the real thing this weekend hopefully! Ill let yall know! Appriciate it agian for all that have helped!!!

Since cleaning everything up did you try it with the old thermostat as well as the new?

Yes, I even dropped them both into the water and put them on the stove and they both opened between 130 and 138 degrees....Both t-stats are rated for 130 degrees...so they both are working.

You sure your putting that thermostat in correctly?
The domed side of the thermostat to the housing?

Ok, I'm going to jump in here for a minute. I believe you have a Mercury lower unit with a Force block. I do not know the mercury lower but I do know the Force block.

NOW: just bear with me for a minute. The block is designed so that all water first goes through the exhaust cavity. This is because it is the hottest place on the engine. Then it routes around the cylinders because it is important to keep them cool, and lastly, it flows through a weep hole in the thermostat until the thermostat opens and full water flow cools the head. It travels down over the internal head passages and exits around the exhaust tube keeping that tube cool.

MY point: if the water pump is not delivering its full rated volume, with the location of your pee hole, whether the thermostat is open or closed, the water will dribble down the head and there will not be enough pressure to pee. Remove the restriction of the thermostat and there will be enough pressure to pee.

Now my second point: You have checked everything under the sun from the water pump to the thermostat but nowhere have I seen a statement that you have cleaned out the water inlets and water passages in the lower unit TO (before) the pump. If there is a partial clog there or an air leak, the pump will cavitate and not deliver its full volume ---THUS: my first point. Low pressure, low volume, no pee with restriction.
