fiberglass mat weight ,cloth whats the difference?

I found some rot in a forward bulkhead so ive got everything cut & ground now im ready to glass but what is the difference between cloth and mat choices i know there is a weight diff could i just add lots of layers of say 3/4 oz mat to get strong i will be using basic poyester resin. thanks for all they great info

3/4 oz mat will work fine, but a layup with just mat isn't as strong as when roving is used, or a similar product with continuous strand. If you have cloth then use it, but roving will be better. Always use mat as the first layer when using polyester resin or you may run into bonding issues.
