I recently discovered that one of my fuel tanks was leaking gasoline. The tank is aluminum and fits inside a fiberglass tub designed (I assume) to contain the gas in the event of such a leak. Somehow, the gas penetrated the fiberglass tub and ended up in a sealed bilge compartment below the tank. From there the fuel penetrated the engine compartments forward bulk head and leaked into the engine compartment which led to the discovery. I pumped about 8 gallons of gas out from the sealed bilge compartment under the fuel tank tub.
The aluminum tank has now been repaired and is ready to be put back in the fiberglass tub.
My question is, is there a paint or similar treatment that I can use to seal the tub before reinstalling the tank. If another leak were ever to develop, it would seem preferable for the tub to contain it and to catch it before it enters the bilges.
Thanks.
Dan.
