fiberglasss repair

I'm thinking of making an offer.Someone loaded it on the trailer too fast and damaged it. They had it repaired and I did not notice it the first time, when I looked at the boat a second time I saw it, the repair was not that good. The only damage I see is under the trim and it is about 6 inches in diameter. The boat is a 18ft Dynatrak and the area is white in color.<br /><br />How much do you think it would cost to repair the right way??<br /><br />Do you think it would cause any trouble to the boat later??<br /><br />Not sure if this is enough info but thanks for any help.

x150 - Really hard to say based on your description and even with a good description it would be hard for us to do much more than guess without actually seeing it. Your best bet is to take someone who knows boats with you to look at it. <br /><br />The repair could vary from cosmetic and something easy to fix to something major enough that you would want to stay away from the boat. For example scratched jelcoat on one extreme to a through hull gouge under a gas tank on the other extreme. If relatively minor you have an excellent bargining chip.

Thanks for the reply. I was not sure if I could <br /> give enough info. The damage is in the bow were they went on the trailer too fast and hit the winch. It is right under the trim (not sure what it is called) It looks to be about 6" in diameter<br />The damage is only on one side and well above the water line. I have never had fiberglass repaired on a boat so I did not know if it was a big deal. Thanks again

Might not be a big deal then. When you do a repair you want to generously feather the edge so that the finish will be smooth and blend in. 6" probably indicates that the hole or scrape was not severe.

fiberglass is the easiest materials to repair. get an info book from west epoxy systems and read it. you will be amazed.................
