One of the way Mercury Marine quick test to see if a blown diode is to put your meter on A/C mode (for MM they say put the leads across the batt terminals...don't do this in this situation) and if you see .25 VAC at least one diode is blown. And essentially a capacitor/condenser is a battery this may give you a clue. Since everything coming from the flywheel is A/C current it has to be rectified and since a diode is a diode is a diode.

So to sum up: Put your Digital Meter in A/C mode, put the your leads on the Black and red/white terminals of the condenser (the small blue like coke can with a coozie on it) , if you see .25 VAC their maybe a un- rectified A/C wave...Maybe...this is just a hunch??

Not getting into mud slinging but you have no idea of what your posting about this... How can the start assist capacitor effect running voltage???It cant ….. Its purpose is to supply power to EMM when engine is cranked due to voltage drop from the starter, once engine starts it job is done and out of system. If bad would have a hard/no start problem. Even test you post is incorrect as you check to see if it bleeds off quickly or immediately.

Hi,

For what it might be worth I had a very strange similar problem with my 115 hp 2000 Ficht. Started fine but just on plane cut out and went into Slow. Sent EMM and Power Board for repair and re-soldering but the problem remained. After a lot of experimenting it was the starter relays female socket in the Power Board that was broke but still kept in place as it is locked in place by plastic. You could provoke the error by wiggling the relays while in idle. Replaced the complete Power Board and all good.

Maybe worth looking into providing you have not tried a separate Power Board
