I just bought a new sonar/gps and I need to take the old one off. My question is how do I go about filling the old holes in the transom. What material to use ect.... Thanks in advance.

I have to assume screw holes?

Alot of people over on the boat building and restoration forum swear by Marine-Tex... gotta admit the stuff in good.

Make sure the structure you are patching is sound, no rotten wood behind the glass, mix it up and PRESS IT INTO THE HOLE... really pack it in there, let it cure, sand, finish... good to go.

Re: filling holes on transom?

oops, almost forgot... go down to the local parts store and buy a can of Brakeclean, spray it in the holes.

Brakeclean is basically acetone under pressure, it will prepare the surface for bonding, don't want any of those waxes and oils to inhibit.

If you want to be really anal, and most would say thorough, ream out both sides with a drill so there is a mushroom shaped hole on each side..... hope this helps?
