Final concept for Project Skanky Beast

I got my latest issue of Trailer Boats and saw a setup I liked, so I have slightly altered my center console project. Instead of a little plexi windshield, I will have a full winshield, small side windows, and roof. The roof will either be hard or a frame with marine canvas or vinal. I will also have snap-ins to close off the sides and back in case of inclement weather. It won't affect cost, I will use the original windshield glass. <br /><br />Here is a quick computer drawing I whipped up of the concept, I think it will be fine.<br /><br />

Sweet.. I like the semi-pilot house console like the one on the Maritime 23' ..<br /><br />Now all ya need is the quad 250HP's.. I think they'll fit!..

That is a great solution. I'm thinking of building a Hunky Dory. That looks like a good console for it.

Thats Great Jason, but i think your drawing is a little out of proportion, the pilot house appears to be about 4 feet high which is enough room to sit inside but not able to stand up. you may want to increase it's size in your drawing and see what it looks like......good luck.......

Flashback, its just a quick drawing, I am aware of actual dimension. The boat is 16.5 feet in length, the floor is at the same level as the bottom edge of the outer sponsons of the tri-hull, 2 1/2 feet from the gunnel top. If anything, comparing my conceptual height with the length of the boat in the drawing, I may have drawn the roof higher than what it will actually be. The actual roof will be six feet. I am five-nine, and could give a rip about anyone elses height. Also, my intent is to build a usable boat that is tolerable in all the weather conditions that occur on my lake. It is common to go out on a bright sunny morning and get a quick rain squall move through, and I want some cover over my head. I also plan to either make or have made some sides and a back that will be rolled up and tucked away under the roof, and can be deployed and snapped into place at a moments notice. That is for me, but it is mainly for the better half, who would much more be likely to join me if there is a place to get out of the rain or get warm. Even in July the temps can drop enough to made it not fun for the lady folk. <br /><br />Here is an exact dimensional drawing, it does work out (on paper).<br /><br />

Jason, I was just concerned that an enclosed pilot house design on a 16 footer would take up too much room, I would be more inclined to install a larger bimini that i could take down if needed, but that being said, the last drawing you put up looks great, proportions look real good, go for it and please post a pic when you get it installed

Flashback, I know what you are saying about room. My other option is to go with my original center console and install a T-Top. Overtons has one for my size range for $529. If I go with my pilot house idea, it gives me a bit under a foot on each side to get around it to get to the front, which isn't bad. My original center console was going to end up the same width as the pilot house, as I wanted full wind protection for two people while under way. The mini-pilot house will just end up more functional, but then I will lose some of the openness of a center console. I can deal with that, its all about compromise. That is while I am working this all out now while it is still a stripped hull. I may mock in a pilot house made of cardboard to see if I would really like it before building the real pilot house. The temps are warm enough to begin, I am just waiting on my glassing tools to arrive, then I can begin.

Both the sites I was using no longer work with this site, so I have a new site that I am using. So far so good...
