The drive is off (I checked the alignement with my merc bar not the spline I was joking about the other day) the local merc dealer has the parts I will pick them up tommorrow. Don said you could turn the drive to one side and it will allow you to change the shift bellows. I have turned the drive and have easy access to the shift bellow that is split in half.
1.The old one was not put on with a crimp tool the person used a zip tie is this normal?
U Joint bellows look good andI have to order the hinge pin tool anyways. So, I will do these bellows at the begining of next season when I pull the drive to do my impeller and lube change I have decided to go with the tube bellows that does not connect with the bellhousing just the transom because Bondo said it is much easier to put on.
2. As, such because you do not have to attach it to the bellhousing can I change this one with out removing the bellhousing ?
I am not trying to take the short or easy way around it, just want to know if it is possible... If i can't I will do this when the hinge pin tool comes and I do my recommission work on the outdrive next seaon.

Read the sticky post on winterizing at the top of the forum. You really need to pull the drive before winterizing so you are sure there is no water in the ujoint bellows. This bites a lot of people that just lets things corrode all winter before the find it.
Fix it this fall during winterization or winterize the engine and have the drive off and fix things during the winter. Use the spring for testing the repairs not doing them.

if the drive is off now why put it on just to take it off again?
Just do it all at once.
And make sure you get a marine fuel line zip tie.... not something you get at home depot.

The bellows on the drive now are dry the drive and u joints are in awesome shape. I was just going to change them because from what I understand when one `bellows go the other is not far behind it . I dont have the hinge pin tool. The merc dealer here does not have one for sale either so i would have to order it. And it would not be here for a week or so. That is why wasn't going to do all the bellows at once because I don't have the right tools. Is there somewhere else i could get a hinge pin tool?

Not sure I totally agree with this.... Why did the shift bellows go? Incorrect installation would be my guess... If they were left with a twist in them, that would explain it...

Hinge pin tool... get a 1/2" allen key, cut about 2" off the end and use a 1/2" socket... You now have a hinge pin tool...

Fuel line cable ties are available from your friendly Merc dealer.. Part# 54-816311T. They come in packets of 50....

i don't agree either.....
depends why they are bad. but the shift cable bellow is pretty thin. the exhaust... a little thicker.... and the u joint bellow is the heaviest of all.
