Re: Finally back!

Excellent!

plywoody wrote:
"The major fighting phase of the war in Iraq is over, and as all predicted it was a relatively easy run-over of a weak country."

Except that most of what you predicted was wrong.
And what you didn't predict wrong was a major concern to you. You should be utterly delighted the war was as short, clean and professional as was demonstrated. Instead I'm senseing your disapointment.

"So much for the contention that Iraq was an imminent threat."

So terrible saddistic dictators with cleverly hidden WMD's still isn't a concern of yours. OK, no problem. There is enough of us to cover your hiney.

"And so much for the contention that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction at the ready, for he neither used any, nor can we find any."

Ole Saddam has really done a number to you hasn't he? He's got you hooked, line and sinker.
Psst, we all know the Kurds died from bad goat milk.

"So we are left with the notion that this was to "liberate" the Iraqi people. The verdict is still out on that one."

That's right, the verdict is still out. As much as your hoping
something will go wrong, I'd not hold my breath.
Ever since thier liberation I've been hearing more gimme, gimme, gimme, then a rainbow coalition rally.
It won't be long before thier oil money will start paying the Iraqi people back. Then they will all have standards of livings like the Kuwaiti's.

"We appear to be telling the Iraqis that they can have any government they want, as long as it is what we want them to have."

No, no, no.

Ain't gonna let you get away with that anymore. Where are you hearing this? You can quote anyone you like. However, if it isn't from President Bush, Rumsfeld, or any other from the immediate administration, your info is bogus.

"And we seemed to have left the era of "political correctness" and entered the era of "patriotic correctness"."

Well that's definately a positive development!

"The Dixie Chicks, among others, get villified and an organized campaign (which thankfully appears to be unsuccessful) to destroy them, all for the cardinal sin of having and voicing an opinion."

This is definately a load of bullgarbiscablona.
The Dixie Chicks and all the others
have had thier say some have said what they want
several times. Some have been given
multiple forums to speak. This
includes the Dixie Chicks. What they and you don't seem to accept is that people have the right to disagree with them! Just like the protesters. They have the right to protest, but they can't stop traffic, business and my rights in the process!
This is the old liberal bait and switch. If you can't understand me this time, your hurting.

"sort of McCarthyesque zeal"

Here it is again. Label it something bad, repeat it over and over, and turn fiction into fact. Spin Clinton style.

"The economy is continuing to flounder with higher unemployment rates"

Well you can blame the President for 9/11, but I'm not. Just what the heck do you expect our economy to do after all that has happend since 9/11. Common!, lets get real here. Quit towing your party line and use a little common sence here!
The economy was already cooling during the last administration. You really don't think that 9/11 punched our economy on the chin?

"eliminating the dividend tax simply won't create any jobs, and just drive up the deficit ever more. Ah, yes. It is a double tax. There are lots of double taxes. How many times do you pay sales tax on that used car you buy? Let's have tax reform, if necessary. And let's cut taxes where they might do some good."

Another fact instead of your party line.
I'm middle income. I've noticed a substantial decrease in my tax liabily for the second year now.
President Bush has already lowered
many taxes. He's trying to lower
several more.
Please don't deny me (my money)lower taxes. If your having a problem with lower taxes, take that money you would give up to taxes and give it to Clinton library or something.

"Ah, yes, all the positives. Fill me in. I must have missed them!"

It's a frame of mind. Logic, common sense and acceptance to other point of views. It's been many decades since all branches of our government has been right of center. It's naturally gonna take some time. Common man give it a chance.
