Smoked my 80 pound terrova on my electric motor only lake boat yesterday. Burned up everything, armature, most of the wires. Motor owed me nothing. It was At least 15 years old and was used hard every time out.
Cant even buy a basic motor & foot pedal 80 pound replacement now days. They all have some level of technology on them most of which I won’t even use on this boat. Don’t need any of it on this boat. Motors are $$$ You even pay extra for a foot pedal,

You know you want an iPilot so you can put in coordinates and take a nap!;)

I’ve got all that stuff with my Garmin Force on my Crestliner. I expected to pay a good amount for that. But never expected that a basic semi affordable heavy duty bow mount T motor was nonexistent.
As far as a nap😁. With my networked Garmin I can sit at the console punch in a way point on my graph and the trolling motor will take me there. Even has a you arrived alarm to wake you up. 😜

You will be lucky if the new motors last 5 hours. DO NOT read about the massive failure rates and the huge out of warranty costs.

Interesting reply. Please post up your experience with failure and what motor/ motors it was. Or any first hand knowledge you have on failing motors. Could be very helpful in my search.

Mine came with a Motorguide. Seals started going a year or two ago. I'm going to run it into the ground then replace. Everything I've seen for my setup is either fob or foot pedal controlled and into the $1k price range. Depending on where that's manufactured...tariffs might come into play so you might be served getting something soon.

I really, really want an old fashioned hand throttle/steer but they are non-existent from what I've seen unless I go used.

Good luck!

I see a couple guys using Minn kota edge bow mount hand steer motors in my travels.
