Some of you might have been following my old thread (thanks for all the help!!) http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=559155

Anyway, we took the boat out yesterday for its maiden voyage... what a blast!!! It couldn't have gone any better.

Launch was a breeze, no one there to rush us, the water was calm, and the boat ran great!!

I did put a new prop on it (21 pitch) and we topped out at 47 mph (according to speedo, not gps). Everything functioned as it should (trim, steering, lighting).

I was mostly impressed with the handling.. with 2 people up in the bow it really planed out...very very smooth!

So, it was a success and we are going back this weekend.

Here's a quick video of my wife behind the wheel for the first time (my buddy is showing her the ropes)

Do you have a 4.3L? Those are some pretty good speeds!

Its a 3.0L mercruiser, and his numbers as he stated were off the speedometer (AKA dream-odometer)... 47 was probably about 38-42mph.

Yup, 3.0... it's a pretty light boat, but I doubt it was really 47... I'm wondering if there is an iphone gps app that would work on the water...

Either way, I was happy with how it moved!!

There certainly is at least one, probably dozens. GPS doesn't care if you're on water or on land. I use MX Mariner on my android phone for GPS speed and navigation, and I like it a lot.

Hey, one quick thing.. and I'm not tryin to sound like a jerk or condascending, but take a look at this thread:

Just a little lookin out for ya is all.

Stop the insanity. The guy just bought a brand new bowrider, give him a chance to enjoy it. That problem had nothing to do with bowriders. Better not drive a car, ride a bike, cross the street, leave the house, then. Your brother would have had the same exact accident and injury with a closed bow boat.

Stop the insanity.

Seriously, you have a similar chance of having a meteorite fall on your head as having that scenario play out. Random, freak occurance.

If you have a Garmin (for the road) it could even tell you how fast you're going. It may keep bugging you about 'recalculating' but it'll at least know how fast you're going.

I have Navionics for the iPhone and I really like it. Essentially a chart plotter, I like the maps and accuracy.

Congrats on your first run. I just did my first run a few weeks ago. Now it seems like the question of the week is "where are we going in the boat this weekend"? :) Enjoy.

I've got a couple of auto gps units but they get annoying when you aren't on a road. I'll give it a try for the hell of it.

Decided to take friday off work to go down to the lake. Also having a local shop do a custom mooring cover that uses the snaps on the boat. The generic fitting one I have now is beyond annoying.

Also goin to replace the tape deck for a nice receiver with iPhone and USB hook ups.

Taking the in-laws out on Saturday. That should be interesting!

ANY iphone gps app will work. Doesn't matter if your on the water, the road, or flying.....speed is speed.

You are correct! And I just found that the GPS app I have has a compass and speed on a separate menu, so I don't have to listen to it yelling at me while not on road.

Another question--- I'll start a new thread if I need to, but I can't get the cover on that attaches to the windshield and goes up over the front seats (not sure what its called)

It seems that the brackets on the windshield are wrong, or that aluminum rods of the cover are at the wrong angle. I can't get the set screw to attach to the 2 upright rods. Unfortunately I don't have a picture with me so its hard to explain. But if I force attach them, the bracket from the rod and the bracket on the windshield are at 2 completely different angles.

Any thoughts or anyone have a picture of yours??? Driving me nuts!
