Firefox dropped all my bookmarks!!

One day they were there but this morning they are gone. . .all bazillion of them.

IE still has some, but does not include the ones I want to find this morning.

I did cold boot my 'puter this morning. Does that do it? I have cold booted before without losing my bookmarks.

Any suggestions?

Try Restore and go back a week? I use IE and the Mrs uses Firefox ..... here firefox duplicates my IE and visa versa whenever we bookmark.

You may have turned OFF bookmarks on the the toolbar (View , toolbars ,bookmarks toolbar

If not then

Bookmarks (on the top) click

Manage Bookmarks (second pick)

They should be there if NOT then File, inport bookmarks

I've never seen it lose bookmarks. You should at least be able to import them from IE like he said.

Or....

Firefox's bookmarks live in:

C:\Documents and Settings\<your name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<random characters>.default\bookmarks.html

Double-click that file. It should contain your bookmarks. If not, rename it to bookmarks.html.bak. Now, you'll see a file called bookmarks.bak. That's a backup automagically created by firefox. Rename that to bookmarks.html. Again, double-click it and see if your bookmarks are in it. If so, your bokmarks in Firefox should be fixed. If not, you may need to import from IE.

There's also a bookmarksbackups folder in that same location. I don't recognize the file extension used there, but there may also be a way to restore those. Ok, just figured that out. This must be new for Firefox 3. Anyway, open Firefox and from the menu up top, go to Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks. There you'll see the Import and Backup button. There will be several automatic backups to restore from.

^^What i386 said and, in that profiles folder i386 gave a path to, see if there is more than one profile. If you're lucky a new profile may have been created, and you just need to switch back to your old one, which will probably be called "default".

my firefox lost my bookmarks when i upgraded to a newer version. Really ticked me off, and I'm holding off on upgrading again until I figure out how to make sure the bookmarks go with it. You didn't by chance upgrade or anything without the changes taking effect until you rebooted?

Always have your bookmarks backed up on other media!

I know I'm in the minorty but I can't stand FireFox tried it again with the newer version and quite frankly I don't see what all the hype is.

As always I went back to Avant Browser and will remain there hassle free!

JB, same thing happens to me every few months, can't figure out why. I must becoming a nerd though, I remember most of the addresses in the bookmark folder now!

Like the others said, export a copy to the desktop or zip drive.

I have been using the bookmark toolbar for frequently accessed sites, and I lost them the other day also. I had to manually replace them, as I couldn't figure out how to undo the problem. I have been loyal to Firefox for quite awhile, and this was a first for me. I still like it much better than the bloated explorer.

I have a laptop at work that will fail every know and then and one of the collateral damage was loosing ff bookmarks if ff was running. I wrote a little scrip in tcl to back up my profile which include my bookmarks every time I booted the pc. This way I only could loose the bookmarks in between boots. ( i boot every day pretty much). Check in the ff extension site. I would be surprise if there is not an extension for ff that will somehow make a copy of your bookmarks.

JB, I still feel like your bookmarks have to be in there somewhere. Were there any backups to restore from? PM me if you'd like to try some remote assistance thing. Maybe I can fix it for you.

Here's a little future insurance for you. It's called MozBackup...

It's an easy to use backup utility that will back up your whole Firefox and Thunderbird profile. It'll backup the whole shebang into one file and save said file wherever you choose.

firefox makes a daily backup of your bookmarks and saves it for 5 days. i know because i was in the same spot when it automatically upgraded a few months ago and tossed all of my bookmarks. i'm pretty sure firefox help has instructions on how to restore your bookmarks, but i'm at work and can't look it up right now.

they are not lost, they are just not loading.

I have little patience with stuff that doesn't have gears and pistons and stuff I can see.

Though I taught people how to program microprocessors to run complex machines it was the machines I loved, not the computers.

If it wasn't for iboats and Email I would gladly use this infernal device as a mount for practice targets.

But. . . I will try Firefox help to get my bookmarks back.

JB, I doubt you meant it this way, but that is a quote for the ages as the world transitions to new technology.
My kids and I'm sure many others roll their eyes at my "if I can't see it, it ain't there!" attitude!

Mine did the same thing. It also did it a long time ago, about 2 years ago, during an update.

This Is My Opinion As Well!!! So far, I tried Firefox 3 times, and went back to IE7 each time I have a zillion items in my fav folders, if they were lost like your bookmarks, I think I'd just die!

good morning JB.
Windows XP has a program build in that allows you to access your computer online from a different computer and take it over for repairs.All that is needed is for the repair person is to know your IP address and your consent of course.
You may want to get in touch with a computer guru of your choice, make the arrangements,and your bookmarks will be back up in about 1 minute flat.Unless of course if you accidentally erased them.
