After changing out the water pump, the motor will fire but wont stay running. I removed the lower carb to get to the shift disconnect (wont do it that way the next time)and now the enigne will fire but then stops after only 1-2 seconds. After about 5-6 tries then it just turns over with no fire. I know I didnt replace the gasket on the lower carb to the intake. Would that be causing my problems?

I'm getting good spark on all 4 cyls.

Jamie

I believe that a loose carb causes a lean condition, so if there are leaks between the carb and intake the results would like be similar. When's the last time the carbs were overhauled? I've got a 77 Evinrude 85, nearly the same motor only less HP, and just got the carbs put back together this afternoon. There are plenty of passages in them two carbs and yours may be fouled up, unless you've had them redone recently. How's the fuel tank? Fuel line and primer bulb. Also check that everything is hooked up correctly since you took the carb off.

Great news. Once I got the throttle and shift cables properly attached, the motor fired off right away and ran like a champ. I checked the lower carb and the gasket was in place. Going to put some hours on it this summer and then rebuild carbs over winter. Thanks for everyones help.
