1970 Buick Gran Sport 455 Stage I.

My brother had wrecked it. My dad told me I could have it, if I could fix it. I was 15.

Within a week, I had a new front clip installed. A week later, the paint went on. I left it bone stock, (except for some THM-400 trans. tuning) with the original Buick mag wheels. I added BF Goodrich Radial T/A's.

I drove it all through high school.

Being from a small towm, the only car car I couldn't whip was my buddies 71 440-6 Cuda, which he STILL HAS.

My mom always thought that Buick had a "lot of pep". heh, heh!! :D :D

And yes, it would drag dad's 22' Starcraft Islander with ease.

His tow car was a 73 Ranchero with a 429/c-6. Mom's 73 T-Bird, 460, did even better.

Re: first car

DJ those cars were the best!
my grandma had a 70 buick GS convertible, metallic
green with white top/interior. these were FAST
right from the factory! man I wanted that car...
my stupid older sister ended up getting it
the only car I ever drove with more low & high end
power was my 71 challenger R/T 383 magnum, factory
Hurst pistol grip 4 speed and even an 8-track player!
ahhhh, the good old days when they built 'em like
tanks, cheap to buy and easy to work on...
M.Y.

MY,

I would have loved to have a drop top too. Mine was gold with a black vinyl top. It was a good looking car. It had the guage package and A/C which I understand was kind of rare.

The torque of those engines was truly awesome. I believe the Buick 455 had 525 lb. ft. of torque. That's mid range diesel territory.

A 4-door 1955 Chevy Bel-Air with the V8 power pack 4-barrel engine, auto tranny, factory dual exhaust, power windows, factory AC, power steering and brakes, it even had had a factory amp guage in the dash and the delux radio. A very rare car indeed, wish I still had it. :)
