Re: First Snow!

Well, the weather warmed up a little bit on the weekend. 29F first thing Sunday morning but a balmy 42F by mid afternoon. Still not complaining, other than the very short season here it really is a boater's paradise. 5 minute drive to the launch, 20 minute cruise through the river channels to get to the nearest big lake, and then its fun and fishing for a long as you want and in 45 minutes the boat is back in the driveway. Oh yeah, did I mention that the sun doesn't go down until the end of July? Two weeks ago we were even swimming off the boat.

Here's a video of the cruise yesterday out of the lake doing 20 knots back to main river channel:

Pretty cool going down channels like that and 20 knots is a perfect cruising speed, IMO, when you have some miles to put on.. Slow and steady....
Around here that whole stretch would have been a no wake zone. There's a chance a wild flower on shore may be damaged otherwise....

Absolutely beautiful scenery .......... thanks for the "S" word reminder ........ this weekend is Labor Day weekend and it is almost certain we will see our first frost VERY shortly.

Just out of curiosity...... what do the majority of people in your area do for employment?....... Please don't tell me they shovel snow!

Beyond my tolerance level. Talking about sunshine in months, not hours. The trees are spires, assumably due to snow weight breaking any outward branches. Postcard and video only for me. Thanks for sharing.

Drift fishing on a slow river like that is an all day "Charmed lifetime" event. Run up the river for a half hour and drift back all day long.
Yummers!
PS: It's 88 degrees right now and expecting 90 or more later on today.
No Snow in the immediate forecast. But my Snowshoes are in the Barn, waiting, just in case....!:joyous:

Holy smokes hogg. Those snowshoes may work in Alabama winters but they would need some re-stringing to work up here.

Re: First Snow!

I would expect snow in a few weeks here as well. It was only a few degrees above freezing 3 weeks ago in the morning.
But it takes a good -5 for an entire day to freeze an I/O so I may put off winterizing one more week.
