I got my 302 ford and 888 mercruiser running for the first time today... it's warm out, so I figured why not. I've been having rotten luck with this boat, so it felt good to know the motor and sterndrive work right.

But, I did notice that there was a lot of water (and exhaust) coming out the sides of the transom piece, at the bottom. Not from the gimbal, from the fixed piece attached to the transom. Does this mean the exhaust bellows are bad? When I throttled up exhaust also came out the prop hub.

Other than that, everything looked good...temp was good, sounded good, sterndrive worked, throttle worked... nice to have some thing work on this boat :)

Look under the transom shield with the engine off. You will see a couple of approx. 1" holes that are idle reliefs that the water is coming out of. It's normal.
