first test run

Last March I got a good deal on a 23' SeaRay weekender , you know what they say about good deals.

To make a very long story shorter , a new engine and out drive , carb , distributor , fuel lines , pump and filter.

The boat was returned to its spot by the mechanic mid December and I decided to take it out for a test spin today.

Well about half a mile up the river she died, lots of smoke, some odd crackling sounds , killed both batteries attempting to start her again. Not a big deal really
I waved down a boat and got a ride to the marina to get the smaller boat , this is where it all went bad.

While working on the boat I pulled every thing out of my pockets to keep them from falling in the bilge.
So there I am at the marina , no wallet , keys or phone. No big deal I have spare key for the truck.

Uncover other boat , crap , no keys , no fuel tanks and no life vest.
Oh and to top it off , no PLUG.
Borrowed a phone , called my friends wife and told her to return to the marina from her walk with her friend as I need
a credit card. All she can ask is where their husbands are ..... have you ever tried to explain to two ladies
you left their husbands on a disabled boat in the middle of the river in the middle of winter.

Well 45 minutes later , I am off to the parts store. Get a plug , fuel tank and life vest , oil and new ignition set.
Return to boat , get every thing in the boat. get to the launch and ready to back in and receive a call.

The boat has been towed in by another boater who promptly got stuck on a mud bar just before getting to the jetty the marina is at.

This is why I love the boating community , before i could launch a boat getting fuel ran down and towed my boat the rest of the way to the launch. Boat is going back to mechanic during the week and will not be returned until it is 100%.

To those that helped me and my friends , Thank You.

To those that take their boat out for a test run , please NEVER tell your friends wife you left them on board a broken boat in the middle of the river in the middle of winter. Its just no worth it , lie and tell them they got picked up by aliens or something.

LOL! Sorry about your test ride, but laughing at the mental image of telling your friend's wife where he was ...

Sorry to hear about all of the above. At least you have a good attitude about it. Next time tell the wives that you had their husbands donate sperm (so they can have more children) just incase you didn't make it back in time. Funny... I still don't understand why most of my friends wives don't like them coming out to play with me???
