First time boat owner with primer questions

Hey guys i bought my first 14ft jon boat the old paint on it is really flaking off ....i was gonna start sanding it down .......but it might be a few weeks with my work schedule before i can primer it ......will it be ok to just wash it down and primer it in a few weeks when i get time .....or do i need to primer as soon as i sand?

No you are okay ....taking the slower route. If it is an aluminum boat and you sand to bare metal...... just wipe it down with vinegar and water and leave it until you are ready. The vinegar will "pickle" the metal and you will be fine.

If it's aluminum you need to prime it (any bare metal) with zinc chromate primer.... prior to painting.
