first time boater-yamaha wont accelerate

Iv'e got a yamaha 115hp and took it out for the first time last week it started ok and went around about half speed,but when I put the throttle down to accelerate furthur the engine goes no faster and it starts missing.It then stops missing if I ease back on the throttle.
Any help for a novice would be very much appreciated.

What Year is Your Yamaha 115 hp?
And is it a 2-stroke or 4-stroke?

Obvious signs of a fuel restriction. More info required for more help.

Was told engine is 4 stroke but I now wonder,how would I tell the difference
Number from plate reads 6E5-115-L BETO ,these are the european codes I believe they are different to the american codes????
Do you think I shoul change the spark plugs to start with.
