Re: First Time Buyer Shopping

Around what time period did they get away from the wood core structures of boats? Been researching the Stamas boat. What about the 1994 Stamus 240? Also there is a 1999 Stamas Tarpon 250 C.C. out there.

In many cases 'they' haven't. Particular brands/models have done away with wood, others have not. Some have synthetic composite stringers, but wood in the transom.

Triton boats and Southport come to mind as 2 brands that do not have any wood. Typically, you have to research a fair amount of the boats product literature and related information to figure it out. Some advertise the details of their construction, many don't.

Much of what is said/written in on Internet forums is hearsay.

Hey got my eye on a 1999 Sea Pro 255. Any feedback on this manufacture/model. Present or former owners of a Sea Pro. Good boat? Bad boat? Should I keep it moving or look further into boat.

Hey guys I have my eyes on a couple of Grady Whites. 2000 GW Sailfish and the 1990 GW 240 Offshore. One of my advisors says that the Grady had a couple of bad years with rot issues in the transom and floors. Any idea what years they were? Any feedback on these particular models would be greatly appreciated.

Looking at a boat (25' Fishing Vessel) that has no electronics. Yes no vhf radio, gps, fish finder, depth, navigation, NOTHING. Marina sold it brand new to the original owner who never had them installed. Old timer they claim, was old school all the way. The marina took care of the boat the first 10 years until the owner moved to florida. Boat was not used much and the owner sent the became ill and sent the boat back north to his son. The son never used it. So it is being sold with bare bones in electronics. Looking for some feedback on the situation. Hopefully i am not looking at too much more than a plug and use situation. Or is that being unrealistic? What recommendations would you have as far as equipping this boat with electronics for the first time without spending too much money but staying up to date with what i would need to be safe and equipped on the Atlantic Ocean.
