Marine plywood, while a bit expensive to start out with it last 20 plus years and you will be very glad you used it as time passes.

do I coat it with something? do I cover the screws with anything? do I use 10 ply or 2 million ply? lol theres just a lot of factors about who is using what and how long it last etc. I just want a dependable structure under my vinyl, not just for piece of mind but for the structure of the boat as well. Thanks for any help, I just got overwhelmed with reading all the posts involving decking.

Re: first time buyer,

3/4" marine grade 7 ply, stainless screws. No need for coating it. Marine grade adhesive for your vinyl. Tried and true combination and will last a long time. I would save the $$$ on some of those other re-deck approaches and spend the $$ on topside stuff you can use!

Since you are re-decking, "you might as well" check into underskinning your pontoon with aluminum sheets and see if that makes sense to you. Many threads on here about it. It is a $400ish job. The benefit is speed performance (a 3-10MPH gain), less water rushing noise, and a less turbulent stern wake for your motor to bite into.

IMO, for your application, I would not underskin. Your motor produces enough HP and you'll go fast enough, water rushing noise at high speeds is part of boating, and stern wake is so low on the list of priorities!

Re: first time buyer,

Thanks for all the help, might do a few pieces of decking each week, I have until next spring to get "All Tooned Up" ready for the H2O.
as soon as I get plans put together for it I will post pics, really looking forward to this build not only for the relaxing side of it but I plan on a lot of fishing compartments and livewell bait box etc.
