Re: fish finder

well, it could be a little problem if your mounting the transducer outside the hull on the bottom of the transom. i think your going to get a little wet.when u buy the fishfinder, the mounting info will be in the manual, and i think it will be self explanitory. and no such thing as a dumb question. thats why we are all in here trying to help each other with info. good luck canadian guy.....bob

It can be done in the water, mounting the transducer may be tricky but it is only a couple of screws...Your not afraid of water are you. Depending on boat construction you may have problems sealing the screw holes though. if all else fails they make portable mounts that attach via suction cups also.

Re: fish finder

Of course, that would be UNDER water.... Not gonna happen unless you have a snorkel. You may want to see if you can borrow someones trailer or at least put it on a lift to install it. Don't forget, you have to also seal those screw holes with sealer..

Just installed a Hbird on my boat, yes a Hbird. The instructions state you can install a thur the hull transducer. Check your installation manual.

Re: fish finder

I'll presume you're asking about the transducer installation here, since it should be obvious the console mounted fishfinder display can be installed with the boat in the water.

IMHO the only way you can install your transducer with the boat in the water is if you're using a shoot-through-the-hull transducer.

Otherwise, if you're using a through-hull transducer, how would you keep the boat from sinking  after you cut the hole through the hull for the transducer? (Yes, you could build a cofferdam, but do you have the expertise to do that?) And if you're using a transom-mount 'ducer, how would you drill the mounting holes underwater, how would you keep water from filling the holes, and how would you seal the holes against continued water entry leading to eventual rot or delamination :( ?

So seems to me that unless you've got a shoot-through-the-hull transducer, you'd be best off hauling the boat out of the water. Good luck.
