You guys are starting to worry me a little. I will get mine in the mail soon. now I'm not sure what to expect from this thing. what do you guys mean "tracking the bottom" I have never owned one before. the way it sounds if it don"t cost 400 bucks it ain't worth it. my tri finder only cost 200. to me thats not cheap. I fish the flats, canals,Bays and holes. i will never see depths past 50 or 60 feet. The gulf is pretty shallow unless you go way out. I have'nt Had any feedback on my other posts. Its an eagal tri finder.

Re: fish finders

For the most part I'm a "technical dork", so I'm not sure what I can offer you? I bought a $154 dollar Eagle Fish Easy II and used it today for the first time. I'd never even seen a fish finder turned on before so I didn't know what to expect? It was really cool! Saw tons of fish on it, saw the water temp, saw where the bottom was, had the shallow water alarm. Hell, I'm not sure what else it's supposed to do, but I enjoyed what it did today! :D

Re: fish finders

Hey bud, Yea i saw your post. i have put up a post on this and did not get much. I got the eagal tri finder and it will be here in a couple of days. I hope that it is as cool as you say yours is. I got the tri finder because it is suppose to tell me wheather the fish is left, right or center of the boat. it says that it tells what kind of bottom ( basicly )is down there. it has the fish id, and some other stuff. i think that i am going to regret getting the one without the temp. though. the fourm's got me a little spooked. will it show bait fish, will it tell me how far foward the fish is in front of the boat, i just don't know what to expect. it says that it has 150 deg. of sight. i don't fish in very deep water because in my neck of the woods there is not to much deep water. mostly between 4 and 50 feet. canals, flats, holes and tampa bay. I have never seen one eather but i hear that they are great help. hope you get some hits on your post. see ya .

Re: fish finders

Over the past 3 years I have owned 4 sonar’s, I was too cheap to really purchase what I needed. See some days I could be Bass fishing in under 10 feet of water and on others I could be looking for bait fish in water where the bottom is over 600 feet. This has actually been quite the educational session for me and to sum it all up you want to get the most power and pixels you can buy for the money. I also learned that Fish ID does not always tell you the truth. If you are seeing the fish emblems don’t believe them only hooks are the real fish. Lowrance has an excellent tutorial on their sonar’s at http://www.lowrance.com/Tutorials/Sonar/sonar_tutorial_01.asp this will explain all about power, pixels and cone angle… have a look .

Xenos

Re: fish finders

The most important thing a fishfinder should do is show bottom contour and the type of bottom you are fishing. Structure is key, if you can't find the structure, you can't find the fish. The fish ID systems are, in my opinion, marketing tools. Debris will also give signals. Higher priced units can see bait fish and individual fish (these are often hard to detect) better, but if you can see the structure and interpret it correctly, you'll catch'um. I have a higher end unit (Furuno). I chose this fishfinder because I fish saltwater. I have locaions that have good structure, but I really need to see if the fish are there and are just not biting because of the tide. Low end units can see the structure, but normally not the baitfish or fish. Don't worry, you'll be fine with your unit, but with my eperience, you will upgrade....go color.
