Just have to share this story with everyone. Last Saturday My Mom.Dad,my Son, his son and his girlfriend were out with My wife and I fishing for Northern Pike on our newly rebuilt pontoon boat. (project pictures ) We were fishing the lazy way with big sucker minnows and just free lining them. I just pulled in a 30 inch northern and was telling my dad how much i loved this rod and reel. its the best one i ever owned. I rebaited and tossed it back out, about a half an hour later i heard a splooosh and turned to see my favorite rod and reel swimming away. apparently i had forgotton to open the bail. Well of course i was pretty bummed out till about an hour later my dads line starts moving. He sets the hook but feels nothing there. figures he should check the bait starts reeling in when he sees what he thinks is a stick come poking out. he says what the hell have i got here. I look "You got my rod." sure enough he reeled it in and there was my favorite rod. after we untangled it all i reeled in the slack and felt a fish on. the thieving northern that stole it had by then had the sucker all the way in his gullet. He must of dragged that pole around under water for an hour. No body on the boat believed it and i am glad i had 5 witnesses. My son being the smart ass he always is goes to the store later that day, comes back and hands me a package "Happy Fathers day" Inside the package 4 new rod holders.

AHH,THE MEMORIES!!!!!!!!As a kid (9-13) in Florida we spent a lot of time fishing for red snapper and speckled trout out of Double Branch. We launched right at the bridge on Hwy 60 and traveled Double Branch down to Tampa Bay and fished the incoming tide back into a large (1/2 mile) cove.Fishing multiple lines in salt water was legal so we usually had 2 or 3 each.We used Mitchell 300 reels on cheap rods.Well over the course of a few years we lost 4 rigs but somehow managed to catch 3 back.We got pretty proficient at disassembly and cleaning the reels.Put them on a new rod and away you go.You did good getting yours back right away.

Re: fish story

Thats a great fishn pole story.
I was involved in a similar experience only we
were ice fishing for pike. the rod went down the
hole.It was a phlugher rocket beautiful old level
wind.We went back the following week to the same
spot and one of the fish we caught was a 15 lb
pike with a line attached. On the end of the line
was the phlugher rocket.

Re: fish story

Still cant believe that happen that day. but i guess stranger things have happen. would love to hear some of those stranger storys. thanks for compliments of the toon! I am pretty proud of the way it turned out. price wise i am pretty happy too, have less that 5000 in it, not including the trailer. The only thing i am not real happy with is the motor. it runs great but its a mercury force. a little bit too loud for a pontoon boat. Maybe next year i can get a nice little 4 stroke.
