Fishfinder Problem?

My last boat had a gps/sounder on it and I used it for speed and depth. My new boat has a Garmin gps and a Raytheon fishfinder on it. I use the gps for speed, and try to use the fishfinder for depth while underway. Problem is that at cruising speed, at about 22 knots, after a while the fishfinder will flash a incorrect high depth like 880 feet and sound an alarm like a deep water alarm. I realize that this is not going to mark fish at this speed but shouldn't it do o.k. in displaying depth ? The model is L265

Re: Fishfinder Problem?

The transducer is in turbulence...needs to be a little lower, or little farther from the lower unit...or it could be directly behind a strake or rivet or something on the hull that's causing turbulence.
