Re: fishfinder

I would buy a Humminbird 570 if I were looking for a graph in this price range.

Re: fishfinder

if you can find a humminbird that works with the "wide side" transducer, this option works great for shallow bass fishing. it will give you a veiw looking out the side of the boat out to 160feet. they area phasing it out now because its been replaced with the side imaging sonar.
i bought a Humminbird 727 two years ago at a boat show for $150+50 for the wideside transducer. its realy nice to be able to peer into the lillypads and see whats inside.

wow that sounds great, just what i am looking for. i dont hav any exp. with depthfinders. i always woundered what you are looking at, the water behind the boat? since thats where the transducer is? or does it "look" under the boat and ahead?
you say that model will "look" 160'?!?! out the side of the boat? in shallow water?

yup, normal fish finders will look directly under the transducer, either in a 60degree arc or a 20 degree arc or both. the wide side sends a 16degree beam out to both sides of the transducer+a 24 degree beam down. so if strait up is 0 degrees and strait under the boat is 180 degrees, the beam scans from 90 - 106degrees.
here is the manual for mine
http://www.busse-yachtshop.de/pdf/humminbird-727.pdf
page 8 shows what the beams look like and page 22 gives you an idea of that you will see on the screen.

Re: fishfinder

well i found the 727 but is 299!!!!!!!!!! and thats not inculding the wide tran. !! however the wide side should work with all humminbird 700's. the 718 sells for about 2oo....thats more my range, maybe i can pickup the tran. later on down the line. after doin my homework i am really lening toward humminbirds. they have the best reviwes......................thanks for your help....i would have never known about wideside as they do not adverise it! you were right they are pushing the sideview. if you search on there website you will find the tran. but it isn't even mentioned in the product desirption of the sonar units.

Re: fishfinder

you could try to find a 717 too, that would be the last model in that line that uses the WS ducer.
otherwise, yea, get one of the 700 units and check your local boat show in january for the WS ducer.
