Five for Five on Cooling Problems

I often see posts on OB cooling problems. I'm no expert, but, I can recall five instances of my motor overheating/lack of cooling water flow. Every time the problem has come back to the impeller. Latest instance - went out to fire up my motor and no flow through tell-tale. Pulled the LU and, sure enough, my 2-YO impeller was missing the tip on one of the vanes and the tip was lodged in the water pump outlet.

So, future plan. Cooling problem - look at impeller first, not last :)

You're absolutely correct. As cheap as water impellors are, it is very cheap insurance to protect a very costly power head repair... I also read so many folks crank their engines without any water muff setup or even in the water, but only for a few seconds, and not realizing just how quickly the water impellor and impellor housing gets melted during that few seconds run...

Long live the impeller is a matter of impeller brand and material quality used, some wears faster than others...
